Unique Ladies Association, Nsukka has made known her desire to establish an Old People's Recreational Center in Nsukka metropolis that would take care of the recreational needs of aged persons.

In her address during the association's inaugural Annual Awards and Lecture which was recently held at the Adada Hall, GRA, Nsukka, the Chairperson of the group, Mrs. Obioma Ogbodo said the association has a major task inview which is to build an old people's Center with infrastructures where our aged parents could be taken to for relaxation and interaction while their children and care givers are at work. She said: “We believe that this can help elongate the lives of our aged parents and make them more active and strong”.

Mrs. Ogbodo said the idea behind honouring women who had broken barriers in their different fields of endeavour was to spur them on and to encourage younger women to emulate them. She stressed that the ancient narratives have changed as women play prominent roles in nation building and other areas of life adding that education is key in the desired transformation and equipment of women towards more leadership roles in the society.

In her lecture, Prof. Ada Ezeibe thrilled the audience by identifying several definitions of women and the potentials available to them on their way up the ladder of leadership in a society like Nigeria. She said that women are simply men with wombs and called on them to conquer their environments with creative thinking and making themselves very relevant in their homes and work places.

Using herself as a typical example, she said she became a professor because she had role models in life stressing that women should not allow themselves to be seen as only baby making machines. She called on them to be focused to be able to break through the huddles and barriers set by the society.

Earlier in their separate addresses, the chairman pf the occasion, Chief Benjamin Eze and the Royal Father of the day, His Royal Highness, Igwe Emeka Ugwu appreciated the members of the association for the efforts they have made to make the union a unique one and requested that the association should in the next edition of the award ceremony include men that have also broken barriers in life.

The highlight of the day was the issuance of award plaques to the awardees who have made their marks in their different fields of endeavours. These include Chief Mrs. Grace Obayi, Prof. Mrs. Ann Okolo, Prof. Mrs Uchenna Odoh, Dame Nkechi Omeje Ogbu and Mrs. Martina Ezeagu (Mama Onyinye).
