Residents of Ejuona Orba Community in Udenu local government area of Enugu State were thrown into mourning  as the ambulance bearing the mortal remains of Sir (Pharm) Fabian Ozioko (KSM) meandered through the streets of the community to his expansive compound. Tears flowed freely, anguish and pains written all over relations, friends and well wishers as they wailed uncontrollably.

In a homily delivered by Rev. Fr. Emeka Asogwa, he said the early passage of Fabian Ozioko has once again rekindled the knowledge of the children of God about the certainty and uncertainty of life. He said that the only thing that is certain is that everybody must die but what is uncertain is that no one knows when death would come.

Quoting relevant passages from the scriptures especially from the book of Matthew and Hebrew, Fr. Asogwa said: “As humans, we are sure that it is appointed unto man to die but we are not sure when death will come. We are not sure of our health. We do not have anything to boast about. Even the wealth we have will not save us once our time is up. Because we do not know when the time will be, the only option left for us is to run to God who knows the end from the beginning.

“Only God knows when we will die. Follow God who knows when we will die. As mere mortals, we must be awake to be able to know when the enemy comes. Let us not act like those during the time of Noah that refused to listen to God's word. Your powers, your wealth, your connection and all you have cannot save you from death. We should prepare ourselves and get ready to meet God and because we want to meet him, we should at all time be prepared. We should be ever ready. Only fools say they have time before they will die.

“As we can see here, Fabian died at the age of 49. He never wished to die at this young age. If it were possible, he would  have stopped death. He fought gallantly but bowed to the superior fire power of death. He was a courageous young man. A great achiever, a peaceful fellow who could not hurt a fly. He was a man with the heart of gold. He hated violence and an accomplished man of peace. As a motivator, he continued to motivate his workers even few hours before his death”

The Priest stressed that before he died, Fabian was the pillar behind the new church building of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Ejuona Orba having generously given financial support to the church. He therefore urged friends and well wishers of Fabian to join hands together to complete the church house.

While rendering his funeral oration, one of Fabian's brothers and friend, Chief Charlie Mbah, Egbe N'Orba, expressed deep pains that Fabian had to die at such a youthful age adding that he could only be consoled by the huge footprints he left on the sands of time.

He said: “Late Pharm Fabian Ozioko (KSM) undoubtedly lived a great life within the short time he lived. He was a rare gem and an epitome of greatness. He was kind and loving, a pillar of compassion and a source of inspiration to his family, friends, associates and all who came in contact with him. Life is indeed fickle. Everyday we are reminded that we are not guaranteed of tomorrow. Fabian has played his part, he has lived well, even though short but we believe he has gone to rest”.

Also speaking, the President of Midas Circle, Nigeria, Chief Marcy Okwor said that the death of Pharm. Ozioko was a huge loss to humanity adding that as a member of Midas Circle, he had distinguished himself as a dependable fellow, a team-player and an accomplished business man. Midas Circle has lost a rare gem and what we could do as mere mortals is to pray for the peaceful repose of his soul.

Late Pharm. Fabian Ozioko was the founder of Afamzy Pharmaceuticals Ltd, Lagos. He was admitted into the honoured Order of Knights of St. Mulumba, Nigeria (KSM) and died three months after his admission into the Order.
